As a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee for Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, Lois has fought to ensure all Floridians have access to a quality public education and opportunities to further their higher education without burdensome debt. Based on this record, she has earned an ‘A’ rating from the National Education Association.
Lois has repeatedly voted to invest in families, students, and schools. She has supported increased funds for all public schools, special education, after school programs, as well as grants to expand opportunities for our students to be ready for a new generation of jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. For higher education, Lois has supported increases to Pell grants and other financial assistance to ensure all students have the same opportunity to advance their education. She has also championed funding for Veteran Student Centers on college campuses to help our student veterans succeed in school. Lois has vehemently opposed efforts by this Administration to roll back protections for sexual assault victims on campuses and students that have been defrauded by for-profit colleges.
